Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Under the patronage of Gharyan University and the Faculty of Science – Gharyan, and in coordination with the Community and Environmental Service Office at the Faculty of Science and the “Gharyan (Hope and Safety)” team for breast cancer awareness and early detection, the awareness campaign kicked off today. The campaign aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection and psychological support for patients.
The event began with verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. Then, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Omar Aboudina, delivered a speech emphasizing the university’s societal role in combating the disease. He affirmed that the Faculty of Science is open to all and will support the city of Gharyan scientifically through research, training workshops, collaboration with health institutions, and sharing scientific expertise with the community.
The event was attended by the President of Gharyan University, students from the Faculty of Science, faculty members, and representatives of the local community, all of whom actively participated in the campaign activities.
Attendees also listened to a speech by Mr. Ahmed Akir, Director of the Youth Voluntary Efforts Agency – Gharyan, who stressed the importance of cooperation among various entities in serving the community.
The campaign included three scientific awareness lectures:
– “Don’t Wait for Tomorrow… Your Decision Makes the Difference” presented by Dr. Iman Al-Fitouri
– “Psychological Support for Cancer Patients” by Dr. Al-Hashimi Hussein Al-Fiqi, faculty member at the Faculty of Medicine
– “Cell and Tissue Biology and Genetics” presented by Ms. Zainab Mohamed Al-Hanshiri from the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science – Gharyan
The event also featured a theatrical performance by the Gharyan Scouts and Guides, adding a human and emotional dimension to the campaign.
At the conclusion, certificates of appreciation were distributed to contributors to the campaign’s success.

• Gharyan Polyclinic
• Wa’adu Organization
The event was hosted by Ms. Afaf Khalifa Abdulsalam, whose presentation added vitality and professionalism to the campaign.
Today’s campaign marks an important step in enhancing community awareness about the importance of early detection and psychological support in facing breast cancer, and reflects the spirit of cooperation and solidarity between civil society and academic institutions in Gharyan.
