As part of the ongoing efforts to safeguard employees’ rights and improve the university work environment, Mr. Baset Al-Sayed, President of the Employees’ Union at Gharyan University, and Mr. Ali Diab participated in the second meeting of the General Union of Employees of Higher Education and Scientific Research, hosted by Omar Al-Mukhtar University on Sunday, July 12, 2026.The meeting was attended by the General President of the Employees’ Union of Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with 21 union leaders representing Libyan universities and the Libyan Academy, warmly welcomed by the leadership and General Secretary of Omar Al-Mukhtar University.Discussions focused on key issues concerning employees, including:Financial rights: addressing the inclusion of entitlements (overtime, Saturday allowance, bonuses) in the electronic portal, and following up on accumulated debts from previous years.Income improvement: reviewing proposals to increase salaries in line with current living conditions, and discussing end-of-service benefits similar to other sectors.Development and care: calling for financial allocations for training programs (domestic and international), and stressing the need to expedite health insurance procedures for employees.Decision-making: emphasizing the importance of involving employee representatives in councils and committees responsible for drafting relevant regulations and policies.The meeting concluded with agreement on the need for serious follow-up to implement these recommendations and refer them to the relevant authorities to ensure their realization.
