As part of the efforts of the Faculty of Science – Gharyan University to link scientific research with community service and activate the university’s role in public awareness, an educational scientific seminar was held this morning on Rickettsia disease, a bacterial illness of health and environmental significance closely related to hygiene and sanitation factors.


The seminar was attended by the Dean of the Faculty and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, along with several faculty members and students from various departments. Representatives from the Environmental Sanitation Office, Tamkeen Organization, and a number of guests and specialists from different scientific and community fields also participated.


The scientific lectures were delivered by a group of specialists:


• Ms. Dalal Younis Al-Ajnaf – Department of Zoology  

• Ms. Hameeda Shaaban Khbeish – Department of Zoology  

• Dr. Hana Abdulsalam Al-Kamishi – Dermatologist and faculty member at the Faculty of Human Medicine  

• Mr. Walid Khalifa Al-Saadawi – National Center for Disease Control


The lectures covered various aspects of Rickettsia disease, including its definition, causative factors, environmentally linked transmission methods, diagnostic mechanisms, and prevention strategies. The current epidemiological status of the disease in Libya was also reviewed, with data on prevalence rates and geographic distribution, along with challenges faced by monitoring and infection control teams in certain areas.


The seminar featured an open interactive discussion between attendees and specialists, allowing for the exchange of ideas and questions, and forming a direct bridge to transfer academic knowledge to the community, especially regarding the practical applications of scientific research in the local health and environmental context.


At the conclusion of the seminar, certificates of appreciation were presented to the lecturers in recognition of their outstanding efforts in delivering scientific information with clarity and precision.
