Scientific symposium on natural plants and their role in alternative treatment.
On the morning of Sunday, June 1, 2025, a scientific symposium was held at the Faculty of Sciences in Asabi'a, focusing on medicinal plants and their role in alternative treatment.
The event was attended by the university president, the vice president for scientific affairs, the director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, participants presenting scientific papers, some university faculty members, and students from the departments of Botany and Microbiology, Zoology, and Chemistry.
The symposium began with verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. Then, the dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. Jamal Hassan Al-Daieq, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of such scientific symposia, lectures, and workshops in enhancing the university’s academic ranking. The university president, Prof. Dr. Saleh Qashout, also emphasized the crucial role of faculty members in presenting their research at such events, strengthening the university's position among local and international institutions. Dr. Ali Al-Fiqi, head of the scientific committee, provided an overview of the symposium and its key topics.
The first topic the history and traditional uses of medicinal plants was presented by Dr. Shahoub Al-Ahmar in a presentation titled "Introduction to Medicinal Plants and Their Use in Libya, Especially in the Western Mountain Region."
The second topic drug interactions between medicinal plants and chemical medications was discussed by Dr. Ali Bashir Obeid in a presentation titled "Herbal Drug Interactions: Clinical Challenges and Preventative Measures."
The third topic prospects for scientific research in developing plant-based medicines was covered by Dr. Khaled Bashir in his presentation "The Development of Plant-Based Medicines: Between Present and Future."
At the conclusion of the symposium, a set of recommendations was announced, and certificates of appreciation and participation were distributed.
