The Faculty of Science in Asabaa, Gharyan University, hosts the Sheikh Taher Al-Zawi Charity Foundation.
The Faculty of Science in Asabaa – Gharyan University, represented by the research team of the Crisis Committee in Asabaa Municipality, hosted the second workshop on the fires in Asabaa on Saturday, May 3, 2025, under the title:
"Analysis of Causes, Consequences, and Ways to Address Them"
The workshop was organized in collaboration with Sheikh Taher Al-Zawi Charity Foundation and the National Defense College.
The event began with a recitation of verses from the Quran, followed by the national anthem. Then, Professor Dr. Jamal Hassan Al-Daik, Dean of the Faculty of Science and head of the research team, delivered a welcoming speech highlighting the importance of analyzing such disasters and exploring ways to address them.
Mr. Imad Bashir Al-Maqtouf, Mayor of Asabaa, also gave a speech praising the efforts of the faculty, research team, and partnering foundation, acknowledging their role in supporting the city during the crisis. Dr. Othman Ali Hams, a representative of the Sheikh Taher Al-Zawi Foundation, expressed the foundation’s support for the city’s residents and commended their patience and resilience.
The workshop included active participation from the Association of Affected Families, with a representative expressing gratitude for the efforts and aid provided.
Workshop topics:
- Geographical spread of fires – Presented by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Saghir from Zintan University, showcasing fire distribution in the municipality using modern maps and graphs.
- Crisis management – Presented by Dr. Jamal Hams from the National Defense College, discussing effective crisis management mechanisms.
- Environmental impact of fires – Presented by Dr. Jamila Salem Al-Labbad, addressing damage to the environment, humans, and animals.
- Open discussion session – Featuring academics from the universities of Tripoli, Gharyan, and the Libyan Academy, covering environmental, economic, social, and psychological aspects of the fires.
Conclusion:
The workshop concluded with the reading of key recommendations, followed by the distribution of material aid, including school bags and household fire extinguishers, provided by the Sheikh Taher Al-Zawi Foundation and supported by Yaqeen Bank.
The workshop served as an important step in strengthening scientific and community efforts to address disaster repercussions and develop effective response plans based on research and analysis.
